Wholesale Perfume Oils

When I was selling perfume oils, I bought them wholesale. Unlike other businesses, you can normally purchase perfume oils wholesale, or very cheaply without a resale license. In fact, many perfume oil manufacturers are family businesses.

Perfume oils can be sold for as high as $125-$150 an ounce. The price you set will depend on your target market. Normally, the highest grade perfume oils wholesale at about $5 for a 1oz bottle, although larger discounts apply to larger sizes.

Perfume Oil Manufacturing

Most people who manufacture perfume oils go to perfume schools. Successfully creating your own fragrance is even more difficult and requires a strong knowledge of chemistry and fragrance.

However, a simple way to save money and make your own body oils is to purchase the uncut version of the oil and then add your own carrier oil. The amount of carrier added will depend on the strength of the fragrance, which varies depending on the scent notes involved. As a general guideline, start by using 20% carrier oil and 80% base oil. Further adjustments can be made as necessary.

The top carrier oils are jojoba and grapeseed, but there are many more. Even experienced perfumers will undergo some trial and error to get just the right amounts, so be prepared to experiment a little.

Designer Type Oils

Designer type oils are oils that are intended to smell identical to designer perfumes. There are various publications on how to duplicate a perfume's scent, but even large manufacturers can sometimes have difficulty getting the scent just right.

The trial and error method can produce okay results, but the pickest customers will always be able to tell the difference. The basic scent notes of most perfumes is common knowledge among perfume industry insiders and with a little experimenting, a close imitation can be made.

The sellers of higher quality oils, however, will use more scientific methods, like gas chromotography. A chromotograph separates the individual chemical components in a perfume. A mass spectrometer can be used to identify the compounds. From this information, it is often possible to create a close and very convincing duplication, although it is unlikely to contain the exact same ingredients as the actual perfume. There are just too many ingredients available.
