Care and precautions
Perfume oils are simple to use but a few precautions are listed below:
- Perfume oils can sometimes damage finished surfaces and remove paint,
so make sure your perfume oil bottle is leak proof. To be safe, it
is a good idea not to place perfume oil bottles on wooden furniture.
- Most oils do not stain most clothes, but it may take a couple of
washes to get the scent out. The fragrance is highly concentrated
in perfume oils. If a fabric is sensitive to oil in general, then
contact with perfume oil should be avoided.
- Oils are often used in oil burners for aromatherapy. It is always
wise to keep an eye on open flames.
- Oils have an extremely long shelf life and can last for decades
while retaining their smell, unless mixed with other ingredients.
- Keep oils out of extreme heat and sunlight as such factors will
degrade the oils.
- Make sure you get the correct type of perfume oil - visit our section
on perfume oil types and quality differences. Uncut oils are too strong
for the skin and can cause damage.
- Plastic squeeze-top bottles are more likely to leak when traveling,
so do not put them in your luggage or they may spill and cause quite
a mess. Roll-on glass bottles are better for travel.
- A few people may be allergic to perfume oils as they are highly
concentrated. On the other hand, some people are allergic to perfumes
but can use oils instead. And some people are allergic to both oils
and perfumes.
- If you have never tried perfume oils before, try to buy the smallest
size available to see if you will like it first. Try to find companies
that stand behind their product.
